Aaron makes a desperate choice to save his friends, triggering a ritual that binds the Heartstone to his soul. The shadow demon lord is momentarily repelled, but Aaron is left changed, with Lyra awakening to find him transformed and the path ahead uncertain.
Aaron's hand tightened around the Heartstone as the shadow demon lord's laughter echoed through the ruined temple. The darkness pressed in from all sides, a living thing that whispered and coiled around his legs. He could feel the shadow within him stirring, eager to answer the lord's call.
"Join me," the lord said, his voice a symphony of whispers. "Embrace what you are. There is no shame in power."
Aaron looked at Lyra, lying still on the ground. He looked at Silas and the Keeper, their bodies broken. He was alone, but he had a choice. He would not become the lord's puppet.
