Chapter 16: The Watcher's Warning
In the aftermath of the Watcher's attack, Aaron and his allies work to stabilize the Heartstone and the village. Silas reveals a hidden location where they might find answers about the Watcher, and they embark on a journey to an abandoned tower. They discover an ancient text that speaks of a ritual to close the door the Umbra Lord opened. The chapter ends with Aaron feeling the Watcher's return nearby.
The village was silent in the aftermath of the Watcher's attack. Aaron leaned against Lyra, catching his breath as the Heartstone's erratic glow slowly steadied. The tendrils of shadow that had lashed out from the Watcher were gone, but the air still felt heavy, charged with an ancient malice.
Elara moved among the villagers, tending to the wounded. Morwen stood at the edge of the square, her eyes fixed on the forest, as if expecting another attack. Silas approached Aaron, his face grave.
"We need to talk," Silas said.
