Chapter 9
Echoes of the Past
Aadhya uncovers a devastating secret: Vihaan's grandfather sabotaged her father's first hotel. This revelation fuels her distrust, reigniting the old family feud and threatening to derail any progress they've made.
The air in Aadhya’s temporary office at Rathore Palace felt charged, not with the pleasant hum of progress, but with the static of something far more ancient and unsettling. She’d been digging, as was her nature, into the financial records of Mehta Hotels, a habit ingrained from childhood, a way of understanding the foundations upon which her father had built everything. It was a deep dive into the early years, seeking patterns, understanding the genesis of her family's success, and by extension, their current precarious position.
Then she found it. Tucked away in a dusty file, a series of letters, brittle with age, and a faded newspaper clipping. The date on the clipping sent a tremor through her: twenty years ago. The article spoke of a disastrous fire, a setback that had nearly crippled a promising new venture, the very first hotel her father had poured his heart and soul into. The report was vague on the cause, citing faulty wiring, a tragic accident. But the letters… the letters were a different story. And the name that kept surfacing, whispered in hushed, almost triumphant tones, was that of Vihaan’s grandfather, Mr. Rathore.
Her breath hitched. Sabotage. Not faulty wiring. A deliberate act. Her father, a man who believed in fair play, in building something with integrity, had been deliberately targeted. The fire had been a wound, a deep one, that had taken years to heal, a constant reminder of how close they had come to losing it all. And to think, it was the Rathore family, this very family whose name was now inextricably linked with hers through this forced merger, that had inflicted it.
