Monsoon Rain and Almost Kisses

During a staff sangeet, they share a moment of laughter and dance. Later, on the palace terrace under the monsoon rain, a near-kiss occurs. Both recoil, the unspoken feelings too dangerous to acknowledge.

The air in the sprawling courtyard of the Rathore ancestral palace was thick with the scent of jasmine and the vibrant thrum of a staff sangeet. Lanterns cast a warm, flickering glow on the faces of the employees, their laughter and song a stark contrast to the tense, professional façade Aadhya and Vihaan had maintained for weeks. Tonight, however, the boundaries blurred. They were guests, yes, but also part of the tapestry of this place, a place that was slowly, subtly, weaving its magic around them.

Aadhya, initially stiff in her embellished kurta, found herself tapping her foot to the infectious rhythm of a dhol. Vihaan, leaning against a pillar, his usual sharp suit replaced by a more relaxed kurta-pajama, watched her with an unreadable expression. It was during a particularly lively folk dance, where the staff enthusiastically pulled everyone onto the makeshift dance floor, that their carefully constructed walls began to crumble.

A mischievous young woman, her bangles clinking, grabbed Aadhya’s hand and tugged her forward. Before Aadhya could protest, she was being guided into the swirling circle of dancers. A moment later, a familiar hand found her waist, steadying her as she stumbled. Vihaan. He offered a small, almost imperceptible smile as he guided her through the steps, his movements surprisingly fluid.
