Elara and the group chase the Keeper through the forest toward the heart of the falls. During the pursuit, Elara and William share a moment of charged intimacy that deepens their bond. The Keeper reaches the falls first and begins the ritual to open the wound, forcing Elara to act.
The forest blurred around Elara as she ran, her boots pounding against the damp earth. The green light flickered ahead, weaving between the trees like a will-o'-the-wisp. William kept pace beside her, his breathing steady despite the pace. Behind them, Lyra stumbled once, and Silas caught her arm without breaking stride.
"He's fast," Lyra gasped.
"He knows these woods," Silas said. "But we know the falls."
