Chapter 30

Chapter 30: The Weight of a Mark

Elara grapples with Seraphine's revelation about a sacrificial mark. After a restless night, she confronts her mother and learns the mark is a willing severance of the bond with the falls, which would make her fully human. Instead of accepting, Elara proposes a different sacrifice—offering a piece of her hybrid essence to the falls to strengthen the binding against the Keeper. The ritual succeeds, leaving Elara with a new, deeper connection to both worlds, and Seraphine finally sees her daughter's strength. The chapter ends with Elara feeling the Keeper's distant fury but also a newfound peace.
