After the school basement victory, the group returns to the falls. Elian bonds with Silas. A mysterious woman appears, claiming to be Elara's grandmother, and reveals that the bond with the falls is slowly consuming Elara. She must undergo a trial to free herself before the next full moon.
The moon hung low over Magical Falls as the group emerged from the school. The air smelled clean, washed by the night, and the only sound was the distant rush of water over stone. Elara felt the pulse beneath her feet steady and calm, but a deeper weariness settled into her bones. The stolen fragment had returned to the falls through Elian, and the ancient was quiet, but something lingered in the dark corners of her mind—a whisper she could not quite catch.
Lyra walked beside her, arms wrapped around herself. “That was close. Too close.”
Kael shifted his shoulders, still carrying the tension. “We stopped it. That’s what matters.”
