Chapter 19: The Hollowed Path
Elara, Silas, Lyra, and Kael go to rescue Silas's grandson from Thorne's followers near the old quarry. They find the boy, but he has been brainwashed and attacks them. During the confrontation, a new threat emerges: a follower of Thorne who has absorbed some of his power. Elara uses her bond with the falls to break the boy's conditioning, but the follower escapes with a piece of the fall's magic. The chapter ends with the boy beginning to trust Elara and Silas, but a new thread of danger is introduced.
Dawn came slowly to Magical Falls, painting the sky in shades of rose and gold. Elara stood at the edge of the forest, her breath misting in the cool air. Beside her, Lyra adjusted the strap of her bag, her face set with determination. Kael cracked his knuckles, a nervous habit he had never quite shaken. Silas was already a few steps ahead, his ancient eyes fixed on the path that led toward the old quarry.
"He's there," Silas said, his voice low and steady. "I can feel his fear."
Elara nodded. The pulse of the falls hummed beneath her feet, guiding her. She had spent the night memorizing the entity's vision, the layout of the trees, the jagged edge of the quarry's rim. Every detail was burned into her mind.
