The air in the chamber grew thick, not with dust, but with a palpable hum that vibrated in Boniface's very bones. The stone walls, etched with patterns that seemed to writhe in the flickering torchlight, pressed in on him. He’d followed the faint, almost imperceptible murmurs for days, deeper into the labyrinthine heart of the Whispering Ruins, leaving behind the treacherous jungles and the chillingly efficient traps that had tested his resolve. Now, the whispers were no longer just a distant murmur; they were a chorus, a symphony of sighs and rustles that seemed to coalesce into something almost intelligible.

He paused, holding his breath, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. The sounds weren’t the random sighing of wind through unseen fissures, nor the skittering of unseen creatures. These were… voices. Faint, ethereal, like memories breathed into existence. He strained to pick out individual words, to decipher the cadence, the rhythm. It was like trying to catch smoke, the sounds shifting and reforming just as he thought he grasped them.
