The scent of rain-soaked earth and the faint, comforting musk of Kiba and Akamaru always seemed to ground me, a stark contrast to the phantom scent of smoke and ash that sometimes clawed at the edges of my memory. Tonight, though, the rain was a gentle patter against the roof of my small room, a lullaby rather than a storm, and yet, the familiar unease settled deep in my gut. It was the Uchiha legacy, I supposed, a shadow that clung to me like a second skin.

I traced the familiar contours of my Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan in the polished surface of the wooden desk. The intricate patterns, the swirling crimson that spoke of power and pain, felt like a brand. It was a part of me, as much as my Uchiha blood, but it was also a constant reminder of what had been lost. The downpour outside seemed to amplify the quiet ache in my chest, a hollow space where a clan, a family, once resided.

“Still at it, Raizen?” Kiba’s voice, warm and familiar, cut through my thoughts. He leaned against the doorframe, Akamaru a furry shadow at his side, a soft rumble emanating from his chest. Kiba’s grin was a beacon, even in the dim lamplight. “You’re going to burn your eyes out staring at that desk.”
