A Fragile Peace
The immediate threat is neutralized, but the scars remain. Raizen reflects on the battle and the heavy toll it took on everyone involved.
The air still hummed with the residual energy of the fight, a phantom tremor that vibrated through the very bones of Konoha. The dust had settled, the screams had faded, but the silence that followed was heavy, thick with the weight of what had been lost and what had been gained. I leaned against the rough bark of a tree, the cool wood a stark contrast to the heat that still simmered beneath my skin. Kuroha, usually a restless presence beside me, lay curled at my feet, a low rumble in their chest that was more a sigh than a growl. Even Akamaru, Kiba’s ever-present shadow, seemed subdued, his usual boisterous barks replaced by quiet whimpers as he nudged Kiba’s hand.
Kiba sat a few feet away, his gaze fixed on the horizon, a distant look in his eyes that I hadn’t seen often. His knuckles were white where he gripped his knees, and the faint scent of blood, his own and others, still clung to him. He was bruised, scraped, and utterly exhausted, but the fire that always burned in him, the one that mirrored my own Uchiha soul, was banked, not extinguished.
“It’s over,” I murmured, the words tasting dry and hollow.
