The air in the cavern was thick with the scent of ozone and something ancient, something that clawed at the edges of my memory. Dust motes danced in the slivers of light that pierced the gloom, illuminating the figure before me. He was cloaked, his face obscured by shadow, yet I felt the weight of his gaze, a familiar, suffocating pressure. Kuroha rumbled low in my chest, a protective growl that vibrated through my bones. Beside me, Kiba’s hand was a warm anchor on my arm, his own senses on high alert.
"You understand now, don't you, Raizen?" The voice was a dry rasp, like dead leaves skittering across stone. It echoed not just in the cavern, but in the chambers of my heart, a painful resonance.
I met his unseen gaze. "I understand your pain," I admitted, my voice steady despite the tremor that tried to betray me. "But I cannot condone your methods. This… this is not justice. It's vengeance."
