Lyra stood at the threshold, her hand still slick with the blood of the elder she’d dispatched. The man’s final gasp had been a wet rattle, his eyes wide with a disbelief that mirrored her own. Before her, illuminated by the sputtering torchlight, the true heart of the Order’s deception lay bare.

It wasn't a hidden vault of forbidden magic, nor a secret arsenal of weapons. It was a tapestry, vast and intricate, woven with threads of gold and shadow, depicting not the noble history of their Order, but a chronicle of manipulation. Her breath hitched as her gaze traced the scenes. There, a stylized depiction of the Ashbourne massacre, not as a brutal demon attack, but as a carefully orchestrated purge, with figures cloaked in the Order’s sigil subtly guiding the shadows that consumed her clan. And there, Kael. Not as the monstrous demon king of legend, but as a figure bound by chains, his crimson eyes blazing not with malice, but with a searing, desperate pain, surrounded by the same cloaked figures, their hands raised in a gesture that was disturbingly akin to a ritual.

Elder Maeve, her face a mask of crumbling defiance, spat a bloody incantation that dissolved into a wheeze. “You fool,” she rasped, her voice thin as parchment. “You have traded salvation for damnation. He will consume you.”
