The air in the forgotten library was thick with the scent of decaying parchment and secrets long buried. Dust motes danced in the single shaft of sunlight that pierced the gloom, illuminating rows upon rows of ancient tomes. Lyra traced the spine of a leather-bound volume, her fingers coming away coated in a fine layer of neglect. Beside her, Kael shifted, the heavy chains that still bound his wrists clinking softly against the stone floor. Even in his weakened state, the sheer power radiating from him was palpable, a low hum that vibrated in Lyra’s bones.
“Anything?” she asked, her voice barely a whisper, the silence of the library amplifying her words.
Kael’s gaze swept over the shelves, his eyes, those infamous blood-red orbs, scanning the titles with an intensity that belied his exhaustion. “These are not merely books, Lyra. They are whispers of forgotten ages, fragments of truths deliberately obscured.”
