Lyra and Silas flee into the wilderness, struggling to survive as outcasts. They stumble upon an abandoned sanctuary that once belonged to a forgotten neutral tribe. The night swallowed them whole. Lyra’s hand gripped Silas’s, their fingers intertwined like roots desperate for soil. They ran without direction, without purpose, only the primal need to escape the burning mansion behind them. The flames painted the sky in shades of orange and crimson, casting long shadows that danced like specters across the forest floor. Silas’s lungs burned—he had not run like this in centuries—but he did not slow. He could not. Not when Lyra’s breath came in ragged gasps beside him, not when her wolf’s heart pounded against her ribs like a war drum.
They reached the river. The water was cold and fast, rushing over rocks that glistened like jagged teeth. Lyra stopped, her chest heaving, and turned to look back. The mansion was a distant glow now, a smear of light against the black horizon. She could still hear the howls, the screams, the clash of steel and fang. She could still see her father’s face, the way his eyes had gone hollow when he said those words: You are no longer my daughter.
“Lyra.” Silas’s voice was soft, but it cut through the chaos in her mind. “We can’t stop here. They’ll send scouts.”
