She was there. Of course, she was there. Where else would she be? This place, this suffocating imitation of life, was her domain now, as much as it had ever been the Black Woods. The air, thick and cloying like old grave dirt, pressed in on me, each breath a struggle against the unseen weight. I’d thought the other side would be an escape, a release from the constant, gnawing fear that had become my shadow in the living world. But this… this was a crueler joke. This was the woods, distilled, amplified, and brimming with a horror that had no beginning and no end.

And she was the heart of it. The little girl, her form shimmering with a malevolent light that was more shadow than substance, was closer than ever. In life, she’d been a specter at the edge of my vision, a chilling whisper carried on the wind. Now, she was a tangible, terrifying presence, her silence more deafening than any scream. Her eyes, if you could call them that, were dark pits that seemed to swallow the meager light that dared to exist here. It was a question that had echoed in my mind for what felt like an eternity, a desperate plea to a universe that offered only silence and more dread. I’d seen the mutilated animals, the blood that stained the perpetual twilight, the lingering scent of violence. It wasn’t just her. This afterlife was a canvas of suffering, a testament to the depravity that humans, or whatever had once been human, were capable of. But she was the constant. The thread that wove through the tapestry of my torment.
