Chapter 4

A Sister's Shadow

As Bishop Dark sifts through the fragmented whispers about the coven, a familiar name surfaces—Talia. His younger sister, vanished without a trace five years ago when she was just ten. The mention of her, however tenuous, ignites a dormant fire within him. The hunt for the witches, once a grim duty, now has a deeply personal stake. Every piece of information about the coven is now scrutinized for any clue, any echo of his lost sister, transforming his mission into a desperate, all-consuming quest for answers and reunion.

The stench of stale ale and desperation clung to Bishop Dark like a cheap whore’s perfume, a scent he wore with the practiced ease of a man who’d long ago stopped caring what anyone else thought. He nursed his mug, the amber liquid a familiar burn in his throat, and tried to ignore the gnawing in his gut. The witches. A coven. Secretive. Powerful. Kidnapping children. It was all so… *neat*. She’d been unusually coy, her eyes, dark and sharp as obsidian chips, holding a glint that made him uneasy.

“They’re good, Bishop,” she’d purred, her voice a low rumble that vibrated through his very bones. “Better than good. They’re… protected. And they move like shadows.”
