The following week arrived with hesitant sunshine and a fresh edge in the air. Sarah found herself standing at the corner café, thumb tracing the edge of her phone. Mia, cheerful as ever, joined her, two warm cups balanced in hand. As they settled into their usual spot, laughter grew quiet and Sarah’s thoughts edged forward.
She took a small breath, remembering her promise to bring her questions into the open. “Mia,” Sarah began, voice lower than she intended, “do you ever wonder if you’re doing enough? I mean… not just at work or with friends, but inside? Spiritually?”
Mia blinked, surprised, then grew thoughtful. “Sometimes I do. I just never know if anyone else feels that way.” She reached across the table, her hand closing briefly over Sarah’s. “I’m glad you said it. Makes me feel a little less alone.”
