Chapter 16
Lingering Questions, Shared Light
Sarah, David, and Elias meet again to share the lingering questions they had been asked to bring. Each voices a different uncertainty, and together they reflect on the value of naming questions within a supportive group. Sarah’s question reveals her struggle with feeling insufficient, while David voices his continued doubt about the tangible effects of their study. Elias guides them to see that honest questions can foster spiritual growth, illustrating with the Psalmist’s example. The group commits to carrying their questions together and anticipates how these uncertainties might lead to new insights in the coming weeks.
The evening air was mild, and the meeting room hummed with a quiet expectancy. Sarah slipped into her chair, journal balanced on her knees. David sat across from her, pen already uncapped, flipping absently through his own notes. Elias, as always, arrived last, his Bible held open by a worn ribbon.
He looked at each of them, a soft smile at the ready. “Did any questions keep you company this week?” he asked, tone gentle enough to welcome whatever silence might come.
Sarah opened her journal. The page was creased where she’d pressed her pen too hard writing and rewriting the same line: What if I’m never enough—spiritually, personally, or otherwise? She hesitated, then read it aloud, voice barely above a whisper. “That’s the one that wouldn’t let go.”
