An Unexpected Ally
Elara and Lina are stunned when Sterling Vance, Damien's estranged father, visits them. He reveals his disgust with Helena's manipulative plan and offers his wealth and resources to help Elara prove her innocence. With his support, they gain access to Damien's hidden safe and discover troubling evidence about his secret dealings, giving Elara a glimmer of hope.
The evening air was cool as Elara and Lina sat across from each other at the kitchen table, the soft hum of the datapad the only sound in the quiet house. Lina had just finished drafting the motion for an emergency preservation order for Damien's study, her fingers hovering over the send button. "Once I submit this, we'll have to wait for the council's response. It could buy us time, but there's no guarantee."
Elara nodded, exhaustion pulling at her features. "Do it. We have to try."
Lina pressed send, and the document disappeared into the digital ether. She leaned back in her chair, rubbing her temples. "Now we wait."
