Chloe, huddled beside him, shivered despite the stifling heat, her small frame trembling like a trapped bird. Her eyes, wide and dark, darted from the shadows to the altar where the treasure pulsed with an unholy light.

“Ethan,” she whispered, her voice a fragile thread. “I don’t like this place. It feels…wrong.”

He tightened his arm around her, his own muscles coiled with a tension that had been building since they’d stumbled into this accursed sanctuary. Liam, Maya, and Noah were gone, swallowed by the woods, by *this*. The desperate plea in Chloe’s voice, the raw fear etched onto her face, ignited a fire in his gut, a fierce, unyielding resolve.
