The air in the crumbling temple was thick, heavy with the dust of ages and the palpable dread that clung to them like a shroud. Liam, Maya, Ethan, and Chloe stood frozen, the revelation of the treasure's true nature echoing in the cavernous space. Alex was gone, vanished into the oppressive silence that had become their constant companion since they’d stepped beyond the willow tree. The weight of their choices pressed down, suffocating them.

"We have to go back for them," Chloe whispered, her voice trembling, her eyes wide with a terror that mirrored the ancient carvings on the walls. Her gaze flickered towards the darkened alcove where Noah had last been seen, a phantom ache in her chest.

Ethan’s arm instinctively wrapped around her, his jaw tight. "We can't, Chloe. Not like this." His voice was a low rumble, laced with a grief he refused to fully acknowledge. He’d seen the way the entity had moved, the unnatural fluidity, the chilling hunger in its non-existent eyes. He knew, with a certainty that chilled him to the bone, that going back for Noah and Alex was a suicide mission.
