The silence pressed in, a physical weight that stole the air from their lungs. It wasn't the gentle quiet of a sleeping forest; it was a suffocating, expectant hush, as if the woods themselves held their breath, waiting. Ethan, his knuckles white where he gripped a fallen branch, scanned the dense curtain of trees. Chloe, pressed close to his side, shivered, her eyes wide and searching. Maya, her face grim, kept glancing at the ground, as if expecting to find a clue in the fallen leaves, while Liam, his jaw set, stared into the impenetrable green wall ahead. Alex, as always, was a shadow at the periphery, his gaze unnervingly still.

Another one. The thought echoed in Liam’s mind, a cold, sharp shard of dread. Noah. Gone. Just like Chloe had been for those agonizing minutes, and just like Maya had been, a phantom in the twilight. But Noah… Noah had been right there, a moment ago, his boisterous laughter a fleeting defiance against the encroaching gloom. Now, only the unnatural stillness remained.

"Noah!" Liam’s voice, usually steady, cracked. He swallowed, trying to regain control. "Noah, where are you?"
