The air in Master Lorien’s study was thick with the scent of aged parchment and something else, something sharp and electric, like the moment before a storm breaks. Dust motes danced in the single shaft of moonlight that pierced the gloom, illuminating shelves crammed with tomes bound in leather so ancient it seemed to breathe. I clutched the worn velvet of my cloak, the silence amplifying the frantic beat of my heart. This was it, the heart of Eldoria, the place where forbidden knowledge supposedly festered, and I, Elara Vance, was standing in the study of its most enigmatic instructor.

Master Lorien himself was a study in shadows. He sat behind a sprawling mahogany desk, his form half-obscured by the flickering candlelight. His face, when he finally turned it towards me, was a roadmap of a life lived in contemplation, etched with lines that spoke of secrets held and wisdom gained. His eyes, the color of twilight, held a disconcerting depth, as if they could see beyond the veil of my skin, into the very core of my being.

“Elara Vance,” he murmured, his voice a low rumble that seemed to vibrate in the very stones of the academy. It wasn’t a question, but a statement of fact, as if he’d been expecting me, not just today, but for a very long time. “You carry a storm within you.”
