The air in the chamber was thick, heavy with the scent of ancient dust and something else… something metallic and sharp, like ozone before a storm. Before me, suspended in the center of the room, pulsed the artifact – the Obsidian Heart. It was less a heart and more a void, a shard of perfect blackness that seemed to drink the light from the flickering torches, leaving only an oppressive, suffocating gloom. This was it. The culmination of my desperate flight, the prize I’d risked everything to find.
Master Lorien stood beside me, his face a mask of strained calm, though I could see the tremor in his hand as he reached out, not to the artifact, but to my arm. His touch sent a jolt through me, a familiar current of reassurance mixed with an unsettling warning. His eyes, usually pools of calm wisdom, were clouded with a turmoil I’d never seen before.
“Elara,” he began, his voice a low rumble, barely audible above the low, resonant hum emanating from the Heart. “You understand what this means. The power contained within it… it is immense. Enough to shatter the seals, enough to unleash the Shadow Broker’s full might.”
