Bartholomew, with Reginald trotting a pace behind him, his capes swirling like an agitated peacock’s tail, found themselves at the foot of a rather peculiar hill. It wasn't so much a hill as a colossal, moss-covered mound that seemed to hum with a faint, silvery light. The air here tasted like spun sugar and mischief. “So,” Bartholomew puffed, adjusting his spectacles which had slipped slightly during their ascent, “this is where the portal comes from, you say?”

Reginald sniffed the air dramatically, his antennae twitching like nervous conductors. “Indeed, my woolly friend. Or rather, near here. The source of such delightful disruption is rarely found in plain sight. It’s all part of the grand, whimsical tapestry, you see. A bit of this, a dash of that, and voilà! A world turned upside down, or at least, a village square momentarily bewildered.” He paused, then added with a sigh that sounded remarkably like a deflating balloon, “Though I do wish the disruptions would be less… fizzy. My waistcoat has never quite recovered from that lemonade river incident.”

They rounded a cluster of glowing toadstools that pulsed with a gentle rhythm, and there, nestled in a hollow, was a creature unlike anything Bartholomew had ever imagined. It was small, no bigger than his hoof, with iridescent wings that fluttered with the speed of a hummingbird’s. Its skin shimmered with all the colours of a rainbow caught in a dewdrop, and its eyes, large and full of impish glee, darted about like trapped fireflies. It was a sprite, a creature of pure, unadulterated playfulness.
