Chapter 17
Chronicle Engine Overload
Facing the Hollow King directly, Leo pushes his Chronicle Engine to its limits. He rewrites the King's destructive actions, but the strain threatens to consume him.
The air crackled, not with the usual hum of magic, but with a raw, tearing sound, like reality itself was being ripped apart. Before me, the Hollow King, a silhouette against a sky the color of old bruises, raised his hands. Not hands, really. More like tendrils of shadow that writhed and coiled, each one a miniature vortex sucking in the very essence of existence. And I knew, with a certainty that chilled me to the bone, that this was it. The moment the Goddess had warned me about. The moment where Erebos, and perhaps my own chance at returning home, would be irrevocably erased.
My Chronicle Engine thrummed within me, a frantic heartbeat against my ribs. It had been my shield, my sword, my everything since I’d stumbled into this forgotten world. But this… this was different. The King wasn’t just attacking a place, or a person. He was attacking *time*. He was reaching back, not just seconds, but *aeons*, and pulling the threads of history out of existence.
“You cannot stop me, Archivist,” his voice was a chorus of whispers, each one a dying echo. “I am the end of all things. The peace that comes after the story.”
