The air in this new land thrummed with a power Leo had never felt before, a vibrant, almost audible hum that vibrated in his very bones. It was the scent of a thousand blooming things, sharp and sweet, overlaid with the earthy musk of colossal creatures and the metallic tang of something ancient and potent. He’d followed the shimmering gateway, that tear in the familiar fabric of his world, and found himself not in another patch of whispering woods, but in a panorama that defied every expectation. Towering flora, their leaves like stained glass, cast kaleidoscopic patterns on the mossy ground. Rivers of liquid light snaked through valleys, and in the distance, mountains scraped a sky painted with hues he’d only dreamed of.

But it was the inhabitants that truly stole his breath. Magnificent, powerful beings, unlike anything he’d ever imagined. Some moved with the grace of gliding shadows, their forms cloaked in shifting patterns of twilight. Others possessed scales that shimmered like a thousand captured sunsets, their roars echoing with the force of thunder. They were not the snarling, mindless beasts of his village’s cautionary tales, but creatures of awe-inspiring presence, each one a testament to a wild, untamed beauty.

He’d spent days, or perhaps weeks – time seemed to warp and stretch here – observing from the periphery, a tiny, insignificant speck in this land of giants. He learned their routines, the way they communicated through resonant clicks and deep, guttural calls that carried across vast distances. He saw them interact, not with the ferocity he’d anticipated, but with a complex social structure, a delicate balance of power and respect. And then, he saw it.
