Chapter 14
The First Test
Leo uses his newfound powers to defend against an early incursion, acting as a bridge between worlds, but his secret is almost revealed.
The air in the Monster Realm crackled with an energy Leo was still learning to navigate. Yet, the fear of exposure, of his human heart being discovered beneath the monstrous exterior, was a constant, icy companion.
Today, the usual symphony of roars and chirps that filled the air was punctuated by a discordant note of alarm. A tremor ran through the ground, not the deep, resonant rumble of a territorial dispute, but a frantic, skittering vibration that spoke of panic. Lyra, her emerald scales shimmering with agitation, found him near the crystalline river where he often practiced his newfound agility.
