The air in the house had changed, a subtle shift like the turning of a season, but one that felt more like a frost settling deep into the bones of our home. Arthur was back. The island, with its sun-drenched shores and the salty tang of freedom he’d apparently found there, was now just a memory he’d brought back in his suitcase, alongside a faint scent of something other than my perfume.
