A locked gate blocks their path to the old library. Jasper, using his hidden talents, picks the lock, revealing more historical records and the first mention of 'The Keeper.'

The cobblestone path, slick with a perpetual, damp sheen, led them to a formidable iron gate. It was more of a barrier than an entrance, its rusted bars twisted into an unsettling pattern of thorny vines and watchful eyes. Beyond it, the silhouette of a building loomed, its gables sharp against the bruised twilight sky – the town library, or what remained of it. The air here felt heavier, thicker, as if the very atmosphere was saturated with unspoken history. Elara scanned the gate, her gaze sharp, searching for any weakness, any clue that might offer passage.

“Locked,” Finn stated the obvious, running a hand over the cold iron. His usual sardonic tone was muted, replaced by a weariness that seemed to settle deeper with each passing hour in this forgotten place. “Of course, it is. Wouldn't be a mystery town without an unnecessarily dramatic locked gate, would it?”

Maya shivered, pulling her worn cardigan tighter. “It feels… ancient. Like it hasn’t been opened in centuries.” She traced the intricate metalwork with a hesitant finger. “The craftsmanship is extraordinary, but the design… it’s almost predatory.”
