Maya, her brow furrowed in concentration, traced the faded ink of a brittle manuscript with a trembling finger. The parchment, impossibly delicate, crackled with every movement, a fragile whisper from a forgotten era. Beside her, Elara watched, her gaze sharp and assessing, a familiar unease coiling in her stomach.

"Are you sure about this, Maya?" Elara's voice was low, a counterpoint to the rustling pages. "It's… a lot."

Maya didn't look up, her focus unwavering. "The symbols, Elara, they align perfectly with the carvings on the fountain, and with the markings on that stone we found near the old mill. It’s all connected." Her voice, usually soft, held a new urgency, a desperate hope that this was the key, the final piece of the puzzle that had ensnared them all. "This isn't just a history.
