The air in Kai’s room felt thick, heavy with unspoken words and the lingering scent of ozone from JJ’s nervous energy. Moonlight, usually a gentle caress, seemed to cast harsh, unforgiving shadows across the worn rug. Kai, perched on the edge of his bed, traced the faded floral pattern with a fingertip, his sapphire flames a low, mournful hum at his side. Beside him, JJ paced the small space like a caged tiger, his green electricity crackling with an almost frantic rhythm. Anieldi, ever the silent observer, leaned against the doorframe, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword, his gaze fixed on Kai.
“It doesn’t make sense,” JJ finally burst out, his voice a tight wire. “A sister? Kai, you never mentioned… I mean, you never told us you had a sister.”
Kai flinched, a subtle tremor running through him. His sapphire flames flickered, momentarily dimming. “It was… a long time ago, JJ. Before you and Anieldi. Before… everything.” He swallowed, the words catching in his throat. “Her name was Lyra.”
