The world, once a canvas of vibrant hues, had settled back into its familiar, comfortable palette. Sunlight, golden and warm, streamed through the windows of Kai's room, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air like tiny, undiscovered stars. It felt… ordinary. And in the wake of the inferno, the ordinary was a balm, a gentle whisper of normalcy that Kai clung to with fierce desperation. He traced the faint scar on his palm, a pale line against his skin, a constant reminder of the searing pain, the unbearable weight of his brother’s life resting on his own.
JJ, ever the restless spirit, was already outside, the rhythmic thud of his training blows echoing from the backyard. Kai could almost feel the crackle of phantom energy, the familiar hum of JJ’s power as he pushed himself, always pushing. Anieldi, quieter, more contemplative, sat by the window, his gaze lost somewhere in the distant treetops. The polished gleam of his sword, ‘Crimson Kiss,’ rested beside him, a silent, deadly promise.
“You’re quiet today, Kai,” Anieldi murmured, his voice a low rumble. He didn't turn, his eyes still fixed on the swaying branches.
