The air, thick with the acrid scent of ozone and something far older, far fouler, began to recede. It was like watching a storm drain itself, the tempestuous energy that had raged around them, within them, slowly being pulled back, contained. Kai, his Sapphire Star blazing with a controlled intensity, watched the tendrils of pure darkness that had been writhing and clawing at the edges of reality begin to coil, to shrink, to finally, irrevocably, bind. The Azure flames, usually so vibrant, so alive, now pulsed with a weary, almost mournful light. He felt it, the immense drain, not just on his power, but on his very essence. It was a chilling emptiness, a hollow ache that echoed the void he’d always carried, now amplified tenfold.

Beside him, JJ’s Emerald Spark flickered, a stark contrast to Kai’s controlled inferno. The green electricity that had surged through him, crackling with the pain he’d actively sought, was now a faint hum beneath his skin. He’d pushed himself, as always, to the very edge, feeding the power that coursed through him with every shard of agony. And it had worked. They had worked. The ancient evil, the insidious corruption that had threatened to unravel their world, was being forced back, drawn into a slumber from which it might never wake.

His crimson-tinged aura, the visible manifestation of his terrifying power, had receded, leaving him looking almost… ordinary. But Kai knew better. He saw the faint tremor in Anieldi’s hands, the slight slump of his shoulders, the way his gaze was fixed on some point beyond the immediate, beyond the dissipating darkness. Anieldi’s power, the one that had been the key to their victory, was a brutal, visceral thing. It had required a sacrifice, a taste of the enemy’s essence, and the subsequent paralysis that had so effectively sealed their fate. Kai could only imagine the revulsion, the sheer willpower it had taken for Anieldi to wield that power, to embrace the sickening intimacy of it.
