The air in the old library was thick with the scent of aging paper and forgotten dust. Sunlight, fractured by the grimy panes of the arched window, cast shifting patterns across the worn wooden tables. Kai ran a finger along the spine of a particularly ancient tome, its leather cracked and brittle like a dried leaf. He’d always found solace in places like this, a quiet refuge from the clamor of his own thoughts and the weight of the world that seemed to press down on his young shoulders.

“Anything interesting, Kai?” JJ’s voice, always a little too loud for the hushed sanctity of the library, bounced off the high ceilings. He was perched on the edge of a table, his emerald-tinged energy crackling faintly around his fingertips as he impatiently tapped out a rhythm.

Anieldi, ever the observer, leaned against a towering bookshelf, his gaze sweeping over the rows of leather-bound volumes with an almost predatory stillness. He held a slim, unassuming sword sheathed at his hip, a constant extension of his quiet intensity. “He’s found something that requires his usual brooding contemplation, JJ. Give him a moment.”
