Chapter 19
A Handshake and a Doily
Elara shares a secret handshake with Sir Reginald, a symbol of their successful quest. She looks at her home's treasures with new eyes, appreciating their quiet history.
Elara sat cross-legged on the worn rug, a faint scent of lavender and aged paper clinging to the air. Beside her, Sir Reginald Fluffernutter, his whiskers twitching with what Elara could only describe as profound satisfaction, nudged his tiny paw into hers. With a conspiratorial grin, Elara offered her own hand, and together they performed the secret handshake. It involved a gentle paw-tap, a quick wiggle of fingers, and a shared, silent understanding that had cemented their partnership through gnome-hat crises and runaway croquet mallets. It was a handshake born of sunflower seeds and whispered plans, of courage found in dusty corners and the unwavering loyalty of a hamster.
“We did it, Reggie,” Elara whispered, stroking his soft fur. “We really did it.”
Sir Reginald responded with a series of contented chirps, which Elara interpreted as, “Of course we did, Elara. Who else would have thought to use a strategically placed teacup to redirect the rogue croquet ball? A true stroke of genius, if I do say so myself.”
