Elara felt it, a thrumming beneath her sneakers, a faint vibration that tickled her toes and whispered promises of discovery. It wasn't just the usual Willow Creek hum of lawnmowers and distant ice cream trucks; this was something older, something that felt like the earth sighing after a long nap. Sir Reginald, perched regally on her shoulder, twitched his whiskers in agreement, his tiny nose quivering like a miniature divining rod.

"It's coming from over there, Reggie," Elara murmured, pointing a finger towards the gnarled, ancient willow that gave their town its name. The tree stood like a stoic sentinel at the edge of town, its branches weeping emerald leaves that brushed the ground like a forgotten gown. The air around it always felt a little… thicker. A little more sparkly. Today, it felt like a fizzy drink about to explode.

She’d spent the last few days poring over the diary, its pages brittle as autumn leaves, filled with the scrawling handwriting of children long gone. They’d called themselves the "Willow Wonders," a gang of hopefuls who’d wanted their town to be the most spectacularly special place on Earth. Their pact, a jumble of whispered promises and dandelion wishes, had been meant to sprinkle Willow Creek with unending joy and wonder. But somewhere along the line, the ‘wonder’ had taken a sharp left turn into ‘weird,’ and the ‘joy’ had morphed into ‘general bemusement.’
