My blog connected me with people who love a bargain as much as I do. I found my people, my tribe. And maybe, just maybe, I found a guy who appreciates my thrift store soul and doesn't care about the Sterling name.

The internet, I discovered, was a truly magical place. Not in the glitter-bomb-and-unicorn way my mother sometimes described things, but in a more practical, life-altering, “OMG, there are *other people* like me!” kind of way. My blog, “Sterling Finds: Luxury for the Less Loaded,” was a hit. Who knew so many people were out there, desperately trying to snag a designer handbag for the price of a latte, or looking for ways to make instant ramen taste like it was simmered for three days with a secret truffle oil infusion?

My inbox started overflowing. Emails poured in from all corners of the globe, filled with ecstatic declarations of finding the perfect vintage coat for a tenner, or ingenious hacks for transforming a drab H&M dress into something runway-worthy. There were even a few anonymous tips about upcoming sample sales that sounded more like classified military intelligence than retail gossip. It was exhilarating. It felt like I’d stumbled upon a secret society, a global network of bargain hunters, and I, Penelope Sterling, was their accidental queen.

Vivienne, bless her perfectly tailored tweed heart, had been instrumental, in her own terrifyingly efficient way. After the initial “intervention island” debacle and my subsequent vow to “try” to be less… me, she’d suggested a digital presence. “Penelope,” she’d said, her voice smooth as aged single malt, “your… *unique perspective* on acquisition can be a valuable commodity. We must simply reframe it.” Reframe it. Right. Apparently, my knack for spotting a designer label from fifty paces, even when it was peeling off a discarded sofa, was now a “skill.”
