The Dark Current
A powerful, unnatural current sweeps the Pearl away into a dark tunnel. Nalu discovers a massive pollution machine on the seabed, realizing the ocean's imbalance is man-made.
The Crystal Pearl, so recently within reach, now danced mockingly at the edge of a churning vortex. Nalu surged forward, his fins beating with a desperation he hadn't known before. Kiko, a streak of silver beside him, mirrored his friend's frantic chase. They had come so far, overcome so much, only to have their prize snatched away by this sudden, violent surge of water.
"Nalu, wait!" Kiko squeaked, his voice strained against the roar of the current.
But Nalu was already plunging into the darkness that had opened where the Pearl had been. It wasn't the gentle, yielding darkness of the deep sea; this was a thick, suffocating blackness that seemed to absorb all light and sound. The water itself felt wrong, heavy and oily, clinging to his scales like a shroud. He swam with all his might, the Pearl a fleeting, luminous ghost just ahead.
