The Silver Octopuses
Navigating a dark passage, they meet shimmering silver octopuses led by Sela, who warns of dangers ahead and gives Nalu a glowing shell to guide them if lost.
The passage narrowed, the rocky walls pressing in on either side as Nalu, Kiko, and Oru swam deeper. Sunlight, once a familiar friend, was now a distant memory, replaced by an inky blackness that swallowed even the faintest glimmer. The water grew colder, heavier, and a prickle of unease began to crawl along Nalu’s skin. He glanced at Kiko, who was swimming close, his usual playful energy subdued by the oppressive gloom.
“Are we sure this is the right way, Oru?” Nalu’s voice, usually clear and strong, sounded small in the echoing darkness.
Oru, ever calm, replied, “The map indicated a passage here, Nalu. And Mara’s song led us to it.” His ancient eyes, accustomed to the deepest trenches, seemed to pierce the gloom. “The map says yes.”
