The air in the Chamber of Echoes hung thick with anticipation, a palpable weight pressing down on Anya and Lyra. Dust motes danced in the single shaft of moonlight piercing the gloom, illuminating the ancient pedestal at the chamber’s heart. Upon it rested not the Sapphire Crown, but a tarnished silver locket, intricately carved with symbols Anya recognized from the forbidden texts. This was the artifact, the key to the prophecy, the object whispered about in hushed tones by the Royal Archives.
Advisor Valerius stood beside them, his usual stoic demeanor strained. His gaze flickered between the twins, a silent plea in his eyes that Anya couldn’t decipher. Lyra, however, radiated a restless energy, her fingers twitching as if itching to snatch the locket. Her eyes, usually bright with defiance, held a flicker of something darker now, something Anya had seen grow with each passing day – a desperate hunger.
“The prophecy speaks of the ‘Mirror of Souls’,” Valerius intoned, his voice a low rumble in the cavernous space. “It is said to reveal the truth of the Sapphire Crown, and of Elavania’s future.”
