Chapter 7
A Sister's Doubt
Lyra begins to question the shadowy figure's motives as their demands become more sinister. She witnesses Anya's genuine concern for the kingdom, stirring a flicker of doubt about her own path.
Lyra adjusted the silken sash of her gown, the cool fabric a stark contrast to the heat prickling beneath her skin. The polished obsidian floor of her chambers reflected the flickering candlelight like a thousand tiny, accusing eyes. The veiled figure spoke of “necessary sacrifices,” of “clearing the path.” Lyra, initially swept up in the intoxicating allure of power, found herself recoiling. What path? What sacrifices? The questions, once easily dismissed, now echoed with a chilling resonance. She had envisioned a swift ascension, a triumphant coronation where her people would finally see her worth. She hadn’t envisioned… this. This creeping dread, this feeling of being a pawn in a game she didn't fully understand.
