The moon, a chipped bone in the inky sky, cast a sickly luminescence on the waves as the *Sea Serpent* sliced through the black water. Salt spray, cold and sharp, stung my face, a familiar kiss that always felt like a promise and a threat. Beside me, Peg Leg Pete squinted at the horizon, his one good eye a beacon of weary vigilance. "Still naught but water and sky, Cap'n," he rumbled, his voice a low growl against the groan of the ship.

"Patience, Pete," I murmured, though impatience gnawed at me like barnacles on a hull. The Obsidian Tide. The very name sent a shiver down my spine, a tremor of both avarice and dread. To command the oceans, to bend storms to my will, to be a god among men… it was a thirst that had driven me across leagues of unforgiving sea, a hunger that no plunder had ever truly sated.

The spectral crew moved about their duties with an eerie silence, their forms flickering at the edges, a constant reminder of the price already paid for their service. Lyra, the silent one, stood at the prow, her gaze fixed on something beyond the visible, her lips moving in a soundless chant. Silas, ever watchful, kept a hand on his cutlass, his spectral eyes scanning the restless waves. Even the rigging seemed to hum with a borrowed life, a testament to the dark magic that held us all bound to this quest.
