Echoes of the Tide
The storm subsides, revealing the cost of their quest. The "Sea Serpent" is battered, the crew diminished, and Creach is irrevocably changed by his encounter.
The fury of the storm had abated, leaving behind a bruised and battered sky where bruised clouds bled into a sickly dawn. The "Sea Serpent," once a sleek predator cutting through the waves, now limped like a wounded beast. Her masts were splintered, her sails rent into ghostly tatters, and the salt spray that coated her decks stung my eyes with the residue of our desperate struggle. The air itself felt heavy, thick with the acrid tang of spent magic and something far older, far more sinister.
I stood at the helm, my knuckles white against the worn wood, the ghost of the artifact’s power still thrumming beneath my skin. It was a phantom ache, a promise and a threat intertwined. The Obsidian Tide. We had touched it, wrestled with its raw, untamed essence, and in doing so, we had paid a price that was etched into the very timbers of this ship and the souls of my remaining crew.
