The Guardian's Wrath
They reach the artifact's resting place, a submerged temple guarded by ancient, vengeful entities. A brutal battle for survival erupts against these spectral sentinels.
The salt spray stung my eyes, a familiar caress that usually soothed the beast within. Tonight, though, it felt like a thousand tiny needles, each one pricking at the raw edges of my frayed nerves. The Sea Serpent, our ebony shadow against the bruised velvet of the night sky, cut through the waves with an unnatural grace. The full moon, a sickly, luminous orb, cast an eerie glow on the tattered sails, making the skull and crossbones seem to writhe. We were close. Too close, perhaps.
"Captain," Peg Leg Pete's gruff voice rumbled from the helm, pulling me from the mire of my own thoughts. His one good eye, sharp and steady, met mine across the moon-drenched deck. "The charts say the Temple of the Tide lies just beyond this reef. But the currents… they're fighting us, Captain. Like the sea itself doesn't want us here."
He wasn't wrong. The very water seemed to churn with a malevolent energy, throwing us about like a child’s discarded toy. The spectral crew, usually a silent, efficient force, moved with a nervous haste, their translucent forms flickering in the moonlight. Even Silas, who usually moved with the quiet composure of a wraith, kept glancing towards the churning depths, his skeletal fingers clenching and unclenching on the rigging.
