Chapter 4
The Unraveling of Resistance
Ravine's initial desire for a casual encounter shifts as Tina's defiance intrigues her. She begins to pursue Tina with a possessive intensity.
The city lights of Tromsø, usually a comforting constellation against the inky Arctic sky, seemed to blur and spin as Tina walked home. The air, crisp with the promise of snow, did little to cool the heat that had settled deep within her. Ravine. The name itself was a jolt, a spark that ignited a wildfire she hadn't known she possessed. It had started with a proposition, a brazen, almost absurd offer delivered in broken English that should have sent Tina running. Instead, she’d stood her ground, her own stubbornness rising like a shield against the Russian woman’s predatory gaze. And Ravine, the terrifying, beautiful Ravine, had been *intrigued*.
Tina replayed the encounter in her mind, the way Ravine’s dark eyes had narrowed, a flicker of something unreadable passing across her usually impassive features. It wasn't just the rejection of Ravine's advances that had thrown the older woman off balance; it was Tina’s refusal to be intimidated, her playful defiance that had seemed to catch Ravine by surprise. Tina had expected anger, perhaps even a threat. Instead, she’d gotten a slow, knowing smile, a smile that promised a different kind of pursuit.
“You are… stubborn,” Ravine had said, her accent thick, the syllables rolling like stones. “Good.”
