The fluorescent lights of the precinct hummed a familiar, grating tune, a soundtrack to the late-night grind. I stared at the corkboard, a chaotic collage of crime scene photos, victim profiles, and scribbled notes. Three bodies. Three hunters. Three meticulously staged deaths that screamed more than just rage. They whispered of a chilling, calculated purpose. My new partner, Jack, was pacing by the coffee machine, a coiled spring of restless energy. He was all sharp angles and nervous tics, a stark contrast to my own weary stillness.

“Anything, Ramirez?” he finally blurted, his voice tight with impatience.

I grunted, not tearing my gaze from a photo of the latest victim, a man named Silas Croft. His eyes, wide and vacant, seemed to accuse the world from the glossy print. “Pattern’s emerging, kid. They’re not random.”
