The air screamed. Not with sound, but with a visceral vibration that shook Aris Thorne to his very bones. Dust, thick and acrid, billowed in choking clouds, obscuring the already fading light that bled from the fractured ceiling far above. The ground beneath his feet bucked and heaved like a wounded beast, each tremor threatening to swallow him whole. He stumbled, his boots scrabbling for purchase on the treacherous, shifting floor. Behind him, the cavernous space that had once housed the heart of a lost civilization was imploding, groaning under an immense, unseen pressure.

He risked a glance back. The colossal obsidian pillars, etched with the same alien script that had captivated and consumed him for weeks, were cracking. Veins of luminescence, once pulsing with gentle energy, now flared erratically, like dying stars. The intricate machinery, humming with a power he had only begun to comprehend, was tearing itself apart. It was a symphony of destruction, a terrifying overture to the end of an era.

Elara Vance. Her name was a bitter taste in his mouth, a phantom echo of her chilling pronouncements. “This knowledge is too dangerous for the world, Thorne. It must be contained.” Her words, delivered with a chilling calm as Agent Kaelen’s men had cornered him, now seemed ludicrously ironic. She had sought to contain it, to control it, and in doing so, had triggered its violent demise.
