In a flashback from Master Alistair Finch's perspective, he works frantically in his hidden laboratory as Guild enforcers close in. He records a final warning in his journal, reveals the secret of the Riftstream's instability and the true nature of Elara's clockwork heart, then escapes into the sewers, leaving Elara his legacy.
The copper coil in his hand was still hot. Alistair Finch wiped a smear of oil from his forehead with the back of his sleeve, eyes never leaving the oscillating needle on his measurement device. It danced wildly, then settled—a frequency he'd only theorized about until tonight.
"Still there, old friend?"
He didn't expect an answer. The device was just a tool. But when the needle flickered again, he felt a pull in his chest—not his biological heart, but the clockwork one he'd built and then discarded. The one he'd given to Elara.
